WiFi Advertising 101

December 23, 2015

Your customers are literally waiting for you to communicate with them. They’re captive, restless, unnerved, and yes: waiting.

If that sounds like an exaggeration, it isn’t. In stores everywhere, customers spend time waiting around sitting idly. That is, of course, unless you offer them free WiFi. Free in-store WiFi may conjure up images of slow, unsecure Internet connections and time wasted with connection codes and login instructions, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

What customers in your waiting area would really like is a connection that’s readily available without assistance, as well as the promise of a secure, encrypted Internet experience. At the same time, you’d like to give them more information about your product/services or special deals, or to get to know a little more about them and their opinions.

All of that is possible with our WiFi proximity marketing system. WiFi proximity marketing with WGi allows you to:

  • Acquire legally compliant user data without employee assistance. Customers agree to the terms of your free WiFi (ensuring you’re compliant with the CAN-SPAM Act) and are texted their free session code. Your employees need not help, and you still acquire the data you need.

  • Push coupons and discount offers directly to customers. You have a number of options for advertising directly to consumers while they use your free WiFi.

  • Time messages to customers at configurable intervals. Messages can be sent to customers every so many page views, or at other configurable intervals during their session on your network.

  • Re-use content you already have in use on other channels. The messages you serve—static display ads or video commercial breaks—can be soft sell banner ads, or a full-on splash screen takeover, content you most likely already have. Usually, there’s no need to develop new material just for this specific purpose.

  • Gather customer opinions. Want to know what customers think of your new product line, or about how well you’re serving their needs? You can ask them to take a moment to respond to a survey and gather valuable customer feedback.

  • Reach out even after your customer has left your business. You also have the option to take advantage of a text messaging feature which lets you reach out long after customers leave your storefront.

  • Monetize if you so choose. Want to monetize your free WiFi? You can let other merchants advertise in the space we’ve already mentioned. The options are nearly endless!

The on-site equipment for serving up free WiFi is surprisingly affordable. It’s plug and play, and there’s a modest monthly fee for the service that’s based on the number of locations you offer free WiFi.

With WiFi advertising, your customers get to enjoy free Internet while you get to serve ads to captive customers, gather valuable consumer feedback, and even earn additional money if you so choose—to name a few benefits.
